RUNNING FIT EVENT SUCCESSFULLY SETS NEW GUINNESS WORLD RECORD Saturday, June 16, 2012 brought hundreds of the most Patriotic athletes out to the inaugural Canton Liberty Run. The 5K, 10K and 1 Mile race was part of the 3-day long Canton Liberty Festival, an annual Flag Day celebration in Canton, Michigan. Racers received custom made, All- American inspired, three- piece Statue of Liberty costume that was included in their race packet for the run.
The 684 dedicated participants costumed up post- race and gathered to break a Guinness World Record for the largest group assembled dressed as the Statue of Liberty. Who needs to get a Personal Record at a race when you can get a World Record? After months of anxiously awaiting the good word, the Guinness World Records Management Team contacted Running Fit Events with brilliant news: “We are pleased to confirm that you have successfully set the new Guinness World Records title for ‘Largest gathering of people dressed as landmarks’.
The Canton Liberty Run and Guinness World Record debuted in 2012, but there is more excitement to come and records to be broken with Running Fit in 2013! Come out on June 15th of the New Year for the 2nd annual event, and you too can be a part of a great run and World Record breaking history!
